The first edition of Kirati Folk Stories by the respected historian Iman Singh Chemjong was published in 1965 with the support of the then Vice-Chancellor of the Royal Nepal Academy. In his remarks, the Vice-Chancellor praised the work for preserving invaluable folk stories, traditional beliefs, and oral histories. He expressed confidence that Chemjong's contribution would inspire further study of Kirati communities, and the diverse traditions of Nepal.
The second edition of Kirati Dantya Katha was published in 2003 by Kirat Yakthung Chumlung (KYC), Central Office, Mahalaxmisthan, Lalitpur. In its publisher note, KYC proudly stated that, as a leading social and cultural organisation of the Yakthung/Limbu community,it remained committed to promoting the Limbu language, script, literature, culture, religion and overall community development. Publishing this important work was regarded as a great honour.
Now, after a long gap, Kirati Dantya Katha is being published once again - time by Chemjong's granddaughter, Ms. Moheindu Chemjong Karki. She translated stories into English, making this treasured collection accessible to the readers around the world who are unable to read Nepali. This new edition honours both the legacy of Iman Singh Chemjong and the dedication of his descedants, who has also contributed the editing of his major work, History and Culture of the Kirat People published in 2003.
